Our focus defines us

A good friend of mind, in a moment of clarity and as an indication of great self discipline and mental health, instituted a self-imposed news black out. (We promised we’d notify one another if we spotted a mushroom cloud or another newsworthy event of equal magnitude). Best I can judge from his next email’s date time stamp, his news black out lasted around five hours. Oh well, it’s a start. I have another friend whom I’m coaching who is enrolled in an anger management support group as a result of his being an out of control news junkie. We are what we choose to absorb from the culture around us. Our focus defines us.

“…whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Philippians 4:8

  1. Great wisdom, but don’t stop there! Continuing in verse 9:” Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you”. Perhaps we need to continually ask ourselves, are others seeing the God of peace in us.
