Brief (very brief) one verse summary of the Gospel

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

“I am” – Jesus claimed to be God. He used the same language, the same name that God gave to describe himself to Moses, and the self description for which the Jews wished Jesus to be killed for blasphemy (claiming to be God).

“the way” – The way to salvation to eternal life through Jesus’ substitutionary sacrifice (atonement) for the sins of those who believe in him as Lord and savior.

“the truth” – The Holy Spirit of truth (an allusion to the triune make-up of God). Jesus is truth incarnate.

“the life” – Just as God created life (Genesis), so Christ creates life eternal for those who accept him. The third allusion to the Trinity.

The way to personal salvation summarized in one verse: “The wages of sin [what we have earned, or deserve, by our sinful behavior] is death [eternal separation from the peace of God], but the free gift of God [a gift must be accepted in order to become ours] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord [to receive this free gift, we must accept Christ Jesus as our Lord and savior]. Romans 6:23

Liar, lunatic or Savior? Your choice will determine everything. Everything.

  1. Hey brother George! Great verse. IMO though, if I was presenting the Gospel to a lost person today, I would use 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4. In Him, brother Paul.
