Alone?

Have you ever felt really alone?  Woken up in the middle of the night feeling like you’ve been swept out to sea on a moonless night, struggling to stay afloat against the raging waves, alone?  It is a fear inducing nightmare.  Everyone has experienced that feeling, of course.   Existentialism seeks to understand the consciousness of being, the reality and uniqueness of self, our identity as an individual.  Cosmology at its roots is the quest to ascertain the nature of our aloneness in the universe.  The Bible says that we all have eternity set within us, the knowledge of heaven, the quest for communion with our maker.  The great comfort is that, as Christians, the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit, part of the triune God Himself, actually dwells within us!  (John 14:16-18)   That is an absolutely amazing thing.  Dwell upon that reality for a moment.  God, the infinite master of the universe, is only a prayer away.  It may sound cliche, but I have always thought of the Holy Spirit as my best friend.  A loyal friend who will never leave or foresake me.  Never alone.
