My best friend

Life can get very lonely sometimes.  Despite our spouse, our best buddies, our children…  There are times when we feel abandoned, betrayed, forgotten, invisible.  A good friend of mine, a Christian who is now with the Lord in his heavenly home, once told me that the most life changing thing I ever said to him was that I had always considered the Holy Spirit to be literally my “best friend.”  He said that comforted him greatly.  Jesus told his disciples that he would send them a “comforter” when he left them.  The Holy Spirit is a being, a person.  People sometimes confuse him with their conscience, but even the unsaved have a conscience.  The Holy Spirit is a part of the trinity, God/Jesus within us, and he is the source of great power, conviction and discernment… if we will allow him.  “Draw closer to God, and he will draw closer to you.”  “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit.”  He will never leave us or foresake us, even in our darkest and loneliest hours.  He is that friend that “sticks closer than a brother.”  He is only a prayer away.  The comfort and wisdom of God is only a prayer away.  As believers, we are never all alone.          (John 14:16-18,26, John 16:7, Acts 2:38, Proverbs 18:24, James 4:8, Ephesians 4:30)
